Why can't horses live forever?

Horses can live a really long time. So long that you begin to believe you will be together forever. Our sweet man, Arizona, succumbed to old age last week at the age of 37. Yes, he had the good fortune of a long, wonderful, and quite adventurous life. He lived out his last few years with me on my farm (I "inherited" him when I bought my home). He was 100% gentleman and a great friend to both horses and people. He was the only horse my baby Buffy has been turned out with (besides mom).

Our last day with him was difficult. But it was very clear the time had come. Goodbye sweet man. We will see you on the other side. [photo is his last one, two days before he left us - we had just baled the field that day].
